Dr. Bancroft went to school in Canada and in England. He has contributed importantly to electron spectroscopy and radiation studies, and has served as the driving force behind the development of a Canadian synchrotron radiation facility. He won the Rutherford Memorial medal in 1980, and the Herzberg Award in 1991.
